Research in MOS

Research in the MOS program runs the gamut from social science (sociology, psychology, history, geography and economics), to more traditional business fields (organizational behavior, human resources management, operations management, marketing and finance), to commercial aviation. Having faculty with diverse expertise ensures that the interests of students are met by individuals who are at the forefront of research and is part of our commitment to providing students with the best learning environment possible. The devotion to research by our faculty is evidenced in their productivity year in, year out.

Faculty in organizational and human resources are currently exploring ideas such as personality, intelligence, psychological assessment, human resources selection, values and ethics, leadership and empowerment, healthcare management, judgment and decision making, as well as teams and task performance.

Current consumer behavior research endeavors include globalization and culture, cosmopolitanism and consumer ethnocentrism, pro-environment attitudes and behaviors, cross-cultural decision-making, ethnic identity, and the role of culture in consumption. Within the domain of finance and administration, research is being carried out under the broad topics of political economy, business history, globalization real-estate and urban economics, executive compensation, as well as in numerous aspects of corporate finance.

Research in commercial aviation are exploring a number of topical areas; including aviation human factors, crew resource management, training, and aviation safety.  Within operations management, research projects include supply chain management and the concepts of responsiveness and agility.

In addition to the research endeavors of the program, MOS also maintains a distinguished speaker series in which well-known individuals are brought in to talk to students about their work experiences. Furthermore, many courses actively invite speakers in to enhance classroom learning.
